Welcome to Glen Eira City Council. Thank you for applying to register your dog or cat with Council.
Current registration period
The current registration period ends on
9 April 2026
. Animal Renewal notices will issued via email in March of each year to be paid by the
10 April 2026
.
What information you need to provide when registering your animal?
Copy of the Microchip certificate must be attached. All animals must be microchipped when registering.
If your animal has been desexed, please attach a copy of the Desexing Certificate (which should be signed by a veterinarian).
As an owner if you are a pensioner, we require a copy of both front and back of your Pension Card. Proof of eligibility must be supplied (State Concession Act 2004).Note: we do not accept Health Care Card or Senior Cards.
If your animal has completed an obedience training course with an approved organisation Obedience Incentive, then attach a copy of the Approved Obedience Certificate.
If your animal is not currently desexed:
If your animal is not currently desexed, yet you plan to do so in the future, please register using the “Maximum Fee” option below.
After registering your animal, then you decide to get your animal desexed, please provide Council with a copy of the desexing certificate. Your confirmation email will state which email account to send the desexing certificate too.
Note:
If this falls within the first 12 months of first registering your animal (this is the date you submitted the online registration) you will receive a $0.00 balance on your next animal registration renewal notice.
Guide/Hearing/Customs or Seeing Eye (in training) Dogs:
When registering Guide/Hearing/Customs or Seeing Eye (in training) Dogs, Council requires a copy of the agreement between you as the owner (or temporary owner) and the organisation.
Restricted or menacing breeds and declared dangerous dogs:
Restricted, menacing and declared dangerous dog breeds
CANNOT
be registered online. These are defined as dogs that fit the “Approved Standard for Restricted Breed Dogs in Victoria”. These may be pure or cross bred American Pit Bull Terriers (or Pit Bull Terriers), Perro de Presa Canarios (or Presa Canario), Dogo Argentinos, Japanese Tosas, or Fila Brasileiros. Please contact Civic Compliance on 9524 3333 to enquire about registering a restricted breed.
